Tuesday Powday Report

A look at the Weekend Winners & Next Week’s Place to Be

Not much in terms of snowfall this weekend.  Which is why it’s the East Coast that gets attention for this report.

More Specifically, New York State.

Now, I know that we all sometimes forget that there is a whole big state encompassing more than just NYC.

It’s a beautiful, albeit overlooked, area that is home to Adirondack and Catskill Mountains.

It’s the Catskills that received the most snowfall this weekend.

10 inches of snow to be exact.

And while many of us have heard of resorts like Hunter and Windham, this resort caught my attention.

Let’s look at this lesser known, but just as nice, New York winner.

How do you pronounce this mountain name?

Good question and you’ll love the answer.

Now, this is a story all about how,

My life got flipped-turned upside down,

And I’d like to take a minute,

Just sit right there.

I’ll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-Air

-The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

That’s right…

Belleayre is not a small mountain.

It has 4 lifts, 1 gondola, and a few magic carpets servicing 61 trails.   These trails include 6 glade runs.

This resort is just south of Hunter and Windham resorts, making it a great day trip from NYC.

Since there are no resort lodging options, you might want to make this your NYC side trip, if visiting from afar.  Otherwise, there are a wide range of lodging choices nearby in Middletown, NY.

Day Ticket rates are much better if you purchase in advance, online.  They start at $57, while walk up tickets are $104.

Season passes this year include free access to Lake Placid world cup luge, ski jumping, bobsled, and skeleton events.  You also get a bonus ticket to share the experience with your friends during non holiday times.  Belleayre also partners with other mid-atlantic resort partners as part of the SKI3 program.

Overall, This is one of those Mid-Atlantic mountains that deliver great skiing and riding without the huge prices of the New England neighbors.

Next Week’s Powder

The West is projected to get a bunch of snow starting this upcoming weekend.

In fact, the southern  California and Rocky mountain Resorts should get lots of accumulation.

Mammoth, for instance is projected to get upwards of 49 inches of snow from this storm system.

Get your skis and boards ready for some powdays ahead.
